Competition 2024
The Children's Bookshow is running a competition for the chance to win a trip to London to visit the Discover Story Centre, in Stratford.
The winner will spend the day in the centre exploring two floors of magical Story Worlds and a Story Garden. These are play spaces where children and their imaginations can roam free. They can creep through caves, find hidden ships and perform in a puppet castle. There is even a tree house with chicken legs to visit! At the Centre they will also have the opportunity to meet writer Michael Rosen who will give the winner a signed copy of his latest book!
The prize is for two adults and one child sharing a hotel room for one night on a bed and breakfast basis and return train travel to London.
We'll also give £200 of free books to the school library of the winning child.
Six runners up will win a copy of writer and illustrator Sam Usher’s latest picture book Zoom.
Our Competition Judge, Sam Usher
Writer and illustrator, Sam Usher, whose books include Zoom, and Free will be waiting to judge your entries!
What do I have to do?
What we would like you to do is to write something very short about birds and draw a bird picture made with pencils, coloured pencils, crayons, paint or felt tips, you choose.
Which birds do you know about? Which birds do you see in your garden if you have one, or on your walk to school? Perhaps you have a bird table you could draw? Perhaps you’ve seen exotic birds in a zoo or a friend has a pet budgerigar?
Think hard about all the possibilities and then draw your picture, caption it, and send it to us. Sam Usher will look at your pictures and judge your entries!
