Live digital performance with Marta Altés

How did it go?

Although our World Book Day event for Key Stage 1 with author and illustrator Marta Altés was delayed by unexpected technical issues beyond our control, we still had an inspiring time with Marta the next day!

Marta showed us how she has always loved drawing by sharing some of her childhood drawings, and she also showed us photos of the places she has created books since she become an author and illustrator - mostly at desks in bedrooms and lounges! Marta read Little Monkey to everyone and then we all took part in a drawalong. It was great fun!

There was time for a few questions from the audience before we had a sneak preview of Marta's latest book Little Tiger, which is coming out in June!

Marta Altés

Marta Altés is a Spanish award-winning creator of many picture books. She studied graphic design in Barcelona and then an MA in Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art where she now teaches. Her touching story of the relationship between a grandfather and his grandson in her picture book My Grandpa won the Jack Ezra Keats New Illustrator Honour in the USA.

Praise for My Grandpa

Altés employs an elegant restraint with the book’s design. The limited palette and broad expanse of white space allow the story to truly shine. Even though titles about ageing grandparents are many, this tale stands out for its stunning simplicity and avoidance of heavy-handed messages.
