Catherine Rayner Workshop

In this fun and interactive session with award-winning picture book illustrator Catherine Rayner, the children will have the chance to look at the many different stories she has written and illustrated. She will read the class Sylvia and Bird and talk to them about how she went about drawing Sylvia. The group will then have the chance to be illustrators themselves. Working with Catherine they will create their own dragon that can do anything they like – fly, leap, swim…

Catherine Rayner

Award winning author and illustrator Catherine Rayner was born in Harrogate and now lives in Edinburgh. Much of her inspiration for her illustration comes from her pets, but the vision for her first picture book, Augustus and His Smile came from watching the tigers at Edinburgh Zoo! This book was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2007.

Praise of Sylvia and Bird

“Catherine Rayner has a marvellous gift for capturing the souls of animals in a few, rich washes of colour.”
