Katie Chappell

Katie Chappell is an author, illustrator and educator. Her debut children’s book, Salty Dog and Pals, was co-written with Helen Stephens, best known for the How to Hide a Lion series.

Katie has taught illustration across a range of levels, from foundation through to MA, and has worked extensively with young people to help them develop their ideas, build confidence and have a nice time being creative.

Alongside her work in children’s books, Katie is co-founder of The Good Ship Illustration, an online art school offering practical guidance for illustrators navigating creative careers. She also runs Illustrated Live, working as a graphic recorder and live event illustrator. Her clients include Google, Apple, Netflix and lots of fancy universities around the world.

Katie lives on the windy Northumberland coast in a little cottage with her husband and daughter.

Did you know…

  • Katie is secretly really good at backwards mirror writing.

  • Katie studied pop music performance for 3 months, then decided she was too shy. She went to art school to draw pictures instead. (Phew.)

  • Afternoon naps and mid-morning baths = her favourite things in the whole wide world.
