Resources for Schools: Race to the Frozen North

Research the life of Matthew Henson, paint an artic landscape or write a newspaper report!

Race to the Frozen North tells the gripping story of polar explorer Matthew Henson. When orphaned Matthew ran away to find a new life in the big city, no one could have predicted that he would become the first man to reach the North Pole. A little luck and a lot of hard work led to a life of adventure on the high seas and in the Arctic, but back at home in America his achievements were ignored due to the colour of his skin.

Read the story and download our activity sheet below for lots of fun and interesting ideas for activities that you can do with children at school or at home.
