The Children’s Bookshow can help you attain the Discover and Explore Arts Awards
Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications that helps children and young people to grow as artists and arts leaders by inspiring them to take part in the arts world. By attending one of our theatre performances children will hear world-class artists talking about their work and our programme of free in-school workshops allows children to explore their own creativity and become artists in their own right.
Here are some examples of how our theatre events and workshops could contribute to your Arts Award:
Catherine Rayner at Lyceum Theatre in Crewe
Suitable for Arts Award Discover
- taking part in arts activities
- researching artists or craftspeople and their work
- sharing their arts discoveries
Picture book author and illustrator Catherine Rayner will give an interactive performance introducing children to her picture books through storytelling and live drawing. Children can research Catherine’s life and work on our website and then take part in the Q&A session at the end of the event to follow up with their own questions. Back at school, children can share their experience of the event and tell us what they thought and learnt from the performance via The Children’s Bookshow feedback forms.
Michael Rosen at Weymouth Pavillion
Suitable for Arts Award Explore
- taking part in a range of arts activities, including a personal response about what has inspired them about taking part
- the work of artists and craftspeople and arts organisations
- creating a piece of art work
- sharing with others what they have enjoyed and/or achieved through completing their Arts Award
Children taking part in Michael Rosen’s dynamic, lively and downright hilarious poetry performance will be buzzing with excitement long after the event. If you are one of the four schools in the area to receive a free in-school poetry workshop with Rachel Rooney your children will have the chance to create their own piece of art in the form of a poem. With plenty of information on our website as well as the artists’ sites, research should be engaging, fun and interesting for the children. The Children’s Bookshow would be delighted to hear what children think about our events and answer any questions children have about our arts organisation. We would also love to showcase artwork produced in response to our performances and workshops on our website giving a wider platform for children to share their creative achievements.
