Valerie Bloom performance

How did it go?

Acclaimed poet Valerie Bloom took the stage at the Shaw theatre in London on Tuesday 27 September for our first Children’s Bookshow event of 2022, our 20th birthday year! Valerie performed in the first Children’s Bookshow all those years ago, and her captivating performance explains why she is still with us today. Children joined in with Pinda Cake, We Don’t Laugh When Grandad Sings, Megastar Rap and many more. There were lots of questions, and every child received their own copy of Stars with Flaming Tails! Awesome!

Valerie Bloom

Valerie Bloom was born in Jamaica and came to England in 1979. She writes poetry in English and Jamaican patois for all ages, and has performed her work throughout the world, with many television and radio appearances. Her poetry is included in a number of anthologies and she tutors regularly for schools and colleges.

'She is a mighty performer of her poems on stage, but she is first and foremost a writer, and her poems on the page are a tribute to her skill.'
