Catherine Johnson performance

How did it go?

Catherine Johnson is so full of energy and interesting stories that an hour's event with her at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich felt like 5 minutes! Catherine talked about three of her books that focus on a fascinating personality from history who has been forgotten or glossed over, often because of their race. We learned all about Olaudah Equiano, a slave who worked his way to freedom, Matthew Henson, who was one of the first men to adventure to the North Pole but no-one believed it, and Josephine Baker, who was a famous actor and dancer, and a wartime heroine.

The young audience of local school children asked lots of very interesting questions before they left to go back to school with their very own copy of Race to the Frozen North as well as stories to recount of frostbitten toes and how to survive if you fall down a crevasse!

Catherine Johnson Workshop

In this lively and interactive workshop, writer Catherine Johnson will work with a class of children to help them develop their own creative writing skills. The focus will be mainly on creating characters and having fun with words, and will be accessible to all. Children will be able to get writing themselves and there'll be time to share their work with the rest of the class.
