How did it go?
How wonderful it was to spend the day with SF Said in Coventry! SF Said spoke to over 500 children at Warwick Arts Centre getting the audience excited about reading and writing: did you know that it took SF 80 attempts to get a story published? Then he found out that authors write lots of drafts before they submit what they think is their best work to a publisher. We found out that after lots of redrafting a publisher was pleased to turn Varjak Paw into a book! Hurray! What an amazing lesson in resilience, and how you should never give up! The children loved sharing what their favourite books are, and asked loads of brilliant questions. We were also treated to a reading from SF's award-winning novel, Tyger.
Every child got to take a copy of the book home and some lucky pupils also had a visit from the author in their school, for a creative writing workshop. Joy!
SF Said Workshop
Four lucky schools around Coventry were treated to working with SF Said on their creative writing skills in their classrooms. SF was inspirational and got even the most reluctant writers scribbling their ideas onto paper!
