EVERY child attending this performance will receive a FREE copy of The Wall in the Middle of the Book to take home and keep!
How did it go?
We were honoured to have author and illustrator Jon Agee perform for us this morning at the Hull New Theatre. Jon travelled all the way from San Francisco and utterly captivated the young audience of nearly 1000 children, with his fluid, funny, live storytelling-drawing. It’s a unique experience watching Jon draw as he tells his stories, and one we won’t forget. The auditorium was alive with laughter and the buzz of children for the whole hour, and we gave every child a free copy of Jon’s classic picture book The Wall in the Middle of the Book. Wonderful!
Jon Agee Workshop
Jon Agee will run a drawing project with your class. Using folded paper, markers, simple concepts and lots of imagination, children will work with Jon to create a picture that when folded looks one way, and unfolded, looks another.

Jon Agee
Jon Agee is the well known author and illustrator of over 30 picture books including Terrific, Milo’s Hat Trick and most recently the acclaimed, The Wall in the Middle of the Book. He grew up in Nyack, New York, just up the street from the Hudson River. As a child he always had an art project on the go. He made picture books, comics, and – as a ten-year old, living in England – flip-books out of London tube ticket stubs. His fascination with language led to a slew of wordplay books, including four collections of palindromes, most notably: Go Hang a Salami! I’m a Lasagna Hog!
Praise for The Wall in the Middle of the Book
This picturebook from the launch list of Scallywag Press demonstrates how much can be done with few words and simple pictures… The book also has a wider resonance: about demonising strangers, preconceived ideas and the folly of a wall.
