How did it go?
Over 850 children and teachers from Wolverhampton schools had such a treat this morning. The wonderfully engaging and talented author and illustrator Catherine Rayner took to the stage at the Wolverhampton Grand and delighted the audience with her stories and beautiful drawing. We loved watching Augustus, Abigail and Arlo come to life on the page, and listening to Catherine’s latest book, Five Bears - a charming tale of friendship. And there were lots of great questions! The children all went back to school smiling, and clutching their own copy of Harris Finds His Feet. Thank you to everyone who came!
Catherine Rayner Workshop
In this fun and interactive session, the children will have the chance to look at the many different stories Catherine has written and illustrated. She will read the class her latest book, Five Bears and talk to them about how she went about drawing each one. The group will then have the chance to be illustrators themselves. Working with Catherine they will create their own bear with its own unique character and personality.

Catherine Rayner
Award winning author and illustrator Catherine Rayner was born in Harrogate and now lives in Edinburgh. Much of her inspiration for her illustration comes from her pets, but the vision for her first picture book, Augustus and His Smile came from watching the tigers at Edinburgh Zoo! Her book, Arlo The Lion Who Couldn't Sleep shortlisted for the 2021 Kate Greenaway Medal and her latest title, Five Bears will be published in June 2022.
Praise of Sylvia and Bird
“Catherine Rayner has a marvellous gift for capturing the souls of animals in a few, rich washes of colour.”
