How did it go?
The beautiful Grand theatre was filled with children from Wolverhampton primary schools who were ready to listen to Rachel Rooney performing her brilliant poems, many of which were from her new book A Kid in My Class, illustrated by Chris Riddell. The children were engaged throughout, with some pupils also actually participating in the performance by going on stage for Rachel’s Russian Doll and Life As a Goldfish poems. We all loved the Hamster poem - not often you see a poet wearing a hamster head!!!
After the performance, several children spoke to Rachel, passing her examples of their own work. Some children even shared videos of them performing Rachel's poems online.

Rachel Rooney
Rachel Rooney was born in London, the fifth of six children and now lives in Brighton, Sussex. She works as a special needs teacher, along with visiting schools for poetry workshops.
She has published two poetry collections for older children, The Language of Cat which won the 2012 CLPE Poetry Award, and My Life As a Goldfish. Her most recent book of poems, A Kid in my Class, is illustrated by former Children’s Laureate, Chris Riddell.
