On the day

Michael Rosen

Whether you are coming to a performance or are also looking forward to one of our free author workshops, we very much hope that your experience of The Children’s Bookshow will be a positive one.

Below is a list of suggestions to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day.

  • Please leave yourself plenty of time to get to the performance venue. Our start times are strictly governed by the theatres that we work with and by the start and end times of the school day. If you are unavoidably delayed, please get in touch with your Children’s Bookshow contact as soon as possible.

  • The performances last approximately one hour. Afterwards there is usually an opportunity for children to buy copies of the books and have them signed by the author/illustrator.

  • If you would prefer the children not to bring money to the performance, copies of the books can be ordered in advance from a local bookshop. The children can bring their copies in and have them signed on the day.

  • Depending on the time of the performance, you may want your children to bring a packed lunch.

  • Parking facilities vary from theatre to theatre; please check the theatre website for details.

  • If you are having one of our workshops, please ensure that all the materials that the author or illustrator has requested are ready on the day. Details of the materials required by each author or illustrator can be found in the School Workshops section of this website.

  • On the day of your workshop, please make sure that the school receptionist knows that the author will be visiting and which member of staff to contact when they arrive.

  • Many of our authors already have considerable experience of running workshops in schools. However, we would ask that the class teacher be always present.

  • Please let us know if any of the children have particular requirements, and please ensure that their normal carer is present.

  • Access to the staff room is always helpful, and a cup of tea can be a lifesaver!

  • We welcome feedback, and supply forms for children and teachers at the end of each Children's Bookshow event. We would be grateful if you could fill these in and return them to us, as they help us to plan for the future.

If you have any problems or queries, please do not hesitate to call your Children’s Bookshow contact.
