Victoria Semykina Performance

How did it go?

Dressed in stylish nautical stripes and colours and with a beautifully made paper boat hat on her head, Victoria talked to over 450 children and their teachers about how she made the illustrations for The Real Boat. Children were fascinated by Victoria’s stories of growing up in a freezing cold part of Russia and her utter delight when she first saw the sea as a child, a love that has stayed with her and influenced much of her artwork. Victoria drew live for us and children loved guessing what she was creating before their very eyes. The actor Samuel John gave a lively and fun reading of The Real Boat bringing to life all the characters that the paper boat meets on its journey to the sea.

Every child in the audience was thrilled to receive a copy of The Real Boat to take home and keep.

What people said:

Our Year 3 class from Ben Rhydding Primary School have just returned from the Children's Book Show at the King's Hall, Ilkley and we would just like to say a big thank you! The children really enjoyed it and we have all been inspired to do some artwork, as well as writing a story for the competition.

Victoria also visited four local schools, and in each one she worked with a class of children in a hands on workshop. They created a sea scape using collage and paint with Victoria offering illustrative tips and advice.
